What role do you play in the local/NZ tech sector?
We work primarily in the education space and technology space but we also have a diverse portfolio of projects which keep us busy, commercial animation, education, blockchain and software development are a few. We're also looking at 5G.
What is your favorite habit to keep up to date with the latest technology trends?
Well, for me, it's probably LinkedIn, and definitely the Internet.
What are your priorities as a tech enthusiast/leader?
For me, education is one of the main ones. We look at how can we educate our people here within New Zealand so they can be part of the conversation. We come from an animation standpoint and we look at technology differently to most other companies. Most of the time, that's from a creative avenue. So for us, we are about STEAM, rather than STEM. And that's an important distinction. With it we're able to look at how we can creatively contribute to the technology ecosystem.
What advise would you give to young people wanting to get into careers in tech?
I would say research, go online, Google things. There's so much information out there educate yourself and find out what interests you then find your pathway that way.
What in your opinion are the greatest opportunities and challenges the technology sector faces in the Waikato/NZ?
I think the opportunity for the Waikato is being one of the first regions to truely adopt a comprehensive long term strategy around technology and it's implementation for future generations. The challenge will always be getting the kids to participate. Spotlight suggestions welcome Each month we spotlight a member of the Waikato technology community.
