Nick is the Founder and an Advisor at Pollin 8, a Hamilton based technology solutions company specialising in IoT and AI.
We interviewed Nick to find out more about the services they offer, key priorities and their approach to advisory, and for his thoughts on the ICT sector in Waikato.
What is your favourite habit to keep up to date with the latest technology trends?
Although I spend a lot of time researching new products & services, I'm lucky to have a wide network of technologists across Australasia & Europe, so I often find out the most valuable information from sharing real experiences with other practitioners.
What does Pollin8 do?
At Pollin8 we work closely with our clients as long-term partners to improve their business performance and/or add new services.
What does your role as Adviser involve?
There's no such thing as a typical day, but I enjoy spending the majority of my time working with clients to understand their issues and opportunities, then tailoring a road-map and solution from our eco-system of trusted products and partners or through custom development.
What are your priorities?
Right now we have three main drivers in the business. The first is focusing on advising local government and commercial companies (large and small) on the best ways to leverage and develop industrial mobility and IoT based on our hybrid business, engineering & IT capability. The second stream is to create low cost mobile applications using the tools available within a client’s Office 365 licenses. This driver has stemmed from customer demand to quickly solve problems that pop up during our talks about their business risks and inefficiencies. The third stream is providing education and awareness around the potential risks and opportunities that digital disruption provides.
What in your opinion are the greatest opportunities and challenges the ICT sector faces in the Waikato/NZ?
Although there's many a small win to be had from fully leveraging a client’s Office 365 tools (if people only ask), on a daily basis I see amazing potential to enhance customer experience, increase productivity and create new services through the combined use of remote monitoring & predictive maintenance (IoT & AI).The challenge is often the human fear of failure trialing a new technology, especially for SMB's.That's why we put our money where our mouth is and introduced our "no win / no fee" assessment and roadmap for such clients who want to transform but don't know where to start or who to trust.
